IN THE INLAND-SEA OF SONGKHLA
These
pictures will show you some nice scenery of a SouthThai village located in
the Inland Sea of Songkhla. No tourist seen there and people really welcome
you as a foreigner.....

near Songkhla
This
is one of my oldest pictures, maybe taken 1982, recovered out of a
negative.
Not so easy to arrive
there, you have to go by boat.

You
need a boat first!
If
you have no boat, the only way there is to walk through the water of the
Inland-Sea of Songkhla, it is not very deep, you need not to swim.

Kasem,
my good friend
Kasem,
a Thai Muslim, comes with me. He died already some years ago. One of my
best friends....He was born in the Inland Sea of Songkhla and wants to
introduce me to his village.

Arrived!
This
is the village center! People are living inside the Inland Sea of Songkhla.
|

Gasoline-Stand
If
you have a motor-boat or a petroleum-cooker, you can buy fuel there. Yes,
this house is the gasoline-stand.

Market-Place
Let
us visit some locals there. Thai Muslim are different from the Thai, they
are similar to the Malaysian people, have a dark skin and speak a language
similar to Malay, called Jawi.

People
here too know about foreigners, but visiting them in this village on
the water is very rare.

picture was not so easy to take, some people are very shy. These are twin
sisters, living in the same house, Thai Muslim and both are still single.

Thai
Muslim food is not everybodies taste.....You have to be accustomed to
that spicy food and the strong smell of fish!

son of a businessman from Songkhla town married this girl, who is
living in this village.

about marry a Thai Muslim lady?
All
people in the village had suddenly the idea to introduce me as a foreign
husband, of course to the bride, who really needs a man to fit her
needs......
